The Moment I Met You (Chapter 562)

By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Michael was done with the signing of the documents before. He checked his wrist watch and saw that it was almost two in the afternoon. He wanted to go for lunch in any of the restaurants that he knew. However, Felix’s phone came immediately or rather at the right time.

‘Hey, I haven’t had anything since the morning meeting. Aren’t you supposed to buy me lunch?’

‘Where are you?’

‘In my office.’

‘Okay, meet me at our parking lot. We are going a Korean restaurant down south.’

After Michael finished speaking, he put on his blue-coloured slim-fit suit jacket, grabbed his phone, opened the door and walked out. The female assistants in the assistants’ office immediately stared at him respectively.

‘The President looks super cute in whatever he wore.’

‘He’s a legend.’

‘I so much love him.’

Although, they work at Moon Corporation, Michael had his own private elevator which of course was also used by Felix. Many of the staff barely had the chance to see him, let alone attend private gatherings with him. Michael was like a legend in their hearts. To them, he was dazzling more than any superstar. He was tall, mighty and radiant.

Both Felix and Michael met at the elevator, and together they went into the basement car park and to the private parking lot only meant for the two of them.

Michael’s ride was a red Ferrari and the moment they got in, Felix said to Michael, ‘Audrey wants Jessica released…’

‘Is only for Chioma to decide,’ Michael started the car and said. ‘I don’t want to hear about that girl.’ He drove out, heading for the popular Korean restaurant down south.

Inside the restaurant, Michael and Felix sat across from each other in a private room on the second floor.

‘You look happy,’ Felix started a conversation.

Michael did not say anything. Instead he picked up his chopstick and began to eat his kimchi. There were large spread of Korean dishes on the table, which included a bucket of Korean fried chicken and four cans of beer.

After eating a few chopsticks of his kimchi, Michael raised his head and said,‘I am happy because I am planning on surprising Chioma.’

Felix nodded as he bit into his fried chicken. ‘I am jealous but I can’t help but be happy for you. I admire you. You are the boss of my company and are worth hundreds of billions of dollars. I bet I don’t stand a chance with you.’

‘Felix, I want you to help me in the preparation. You might find your better half and she would want you to marry her there.’ Michael’s lips quirked up in a deep smile.

Fortunately, Felix had already swallowed the chicken; otherwise, he would definitely have choked on it.

‘I promise to help you but don’t give me a heart attack.’

Michael smiled, and then he raised his beer and took a large sip. Felix also too a large sip from his own can.

‘If I give you a heart attack be sure that your whole body will be on fire.’Michael raised his head and looked at him.

‘Yeah, that is why I am going to help you so that you don’t repeat the heart attack.’

‘Is it going to be at Jimmy Carter Street, the first place I met Chioma.’ Michael smiled his most winning smile. Felix knew that Michael truly love Chioma Chima. Felix wished that he was the one that won the sweep, but then he was still happy for his brother even though he knew deep down his heart that he won’t be able to get over Chioma Chima. She will always have a special place in his heart even if he were to get married someday to a different person.

Meanwhile, at George Enterprise, Andrew was sitting in his office, working with the computer on his desk as well as his other male colleagues. Everyone was serious at work. This was the engineering department of the company; everyone was always busy with work.

When it was time for lunch break, the men stood up to go to the company’s cafeteria which was on the second-floor basement and could only be accessed by the company’s staff. But then, most employees didn’t eat there, especially those whose high income allowed them to order delivery.

However, Andrew along with his new recruited colleagues had low incomes and few bonuses and would always come here to eat. It was lunchtime so the cafeteria was crowded with people. The interior decorations for the cafeteria were clean, bright and delightfully decorated. The tables and chairs were fashionable, the lighting elegant and there were potted plants sparsely distributed at the four corners, which had tender and lovely leaves. But no matter how decorated this cafeteria was it couldn’t still compare the luxurious dining hall of the Moon Corporation, which was decorated more like a dining area in a seven-star hotel.

When Andrew and his two colleagues entered the cafeteria much attention was drawn to them, especially at Andrew who was the most handsome of his colleagues. Andrew didn’t seem to mind the fawning stare, he walked over to a table and the three of them settled in when a female staff, from the Public Relations Department, dressed in a fitting light purple dress walked up to Andrew and coyly said, ‘Andrew, our PR department will be hosting a cocktail party. I really want to give you this invite. I am Angel Smith.’ She pulled out an invitation card from her bag but before she could place it before Andrew, he gestured for her to stop.

 ‘Not interested,’ Andrew rejected her.

The girl smiled charmingly at Andrew who totally ignored her. The girl’s long hair was curled in waves, and she had above average looks.  There was a rose-coloured hair clip on top of her lovely hair. Any man would have accepted her invite, but Andrew rejected her without even looking at her face for once. He didn’t care much of her. The only woman he was interested in was Chisom.

‘Eh? I think you misjudged me before you got to know me.’

‘I need to reward myself with this lunch after working hard today. You may leave.’ Andrew turned his head away.

Angel’s pursed lips turned into a smile. ‘I heard others speak of how much of a great talent you are, but from how I see it you just have a tongue that could turn sweet food to sour.

Julius, who sat the closet to Andrew turned around, he gave Angel a profound look, laughed cheerfully and said, ‘Andrew, why don’t you ask Angel if she has a boyfriend, I think the two of you are pretty compatible.’

Andrew frowned at him. ‘I hate silly jokes. And yes, I do have a girlfriend.’

Hearing this, Angel became incredibly envious. She had wanted to make Andrew her man only to be rejected by him and told straight in the face that he was already seeing someone. Angel had to head back to her table, looking pitiful. She had never expected this hot blow.                                                                                                                              ‘Andrew, she looks like she’s up to no good,’ Julius said sipping his soybean milk. ‘I already knew you had a girlfriend, I only said those words to help you out.’ He winked at Andrew.

Andrew nodded, not saying anything.

‘Girls love Engineers, especially those that studied Mass Communication. Angel is no exception,’ William another colleague said to Andrew. ‘I guess she’s in love with you…’

‘She’s known by her colleagues as the hot and spicy girl. Many of the male staff here wanted to get a glimpse of this hot girl named Angel but she has just offered herself to you on a platter. She’s the famous hot and spicy worker here, and for breaking her heart I suggest you buy her chocolates and flowers,’ Julius teased and Andrew frowned.

‘Hot and spicy? That sounds more like she’s a tomboy,’ Andrew rolled his eyes at Julius.

After they returned back to the office, Andrew planned on continuing with his work, but then, his phone rang. As expected, glancing at the caller ID, sure enough, it was Chisom Onuoha.

Upon thinking of her unique presence, a burst of warmth flowed through Andrew’s heart. Answering the call, he softly responded,‘Chisom.’

‘Andrew…’ from the phone, Chisom’s voice seemed to be filled with warmth.

‘What’s up?’

‘Have…Have I interrupted your work?’ Chisom immediately asked when she remembered Andrew now worked at George Enterprise.

Andrew couldn’t help but laugh, then responded, ‘Yes, just now I was about to continue with the report I was asked to prepare  before I left for lunch, but I am happy that you called just now because my brain ran out of battery and your call has charged it.’

The other side went silent for a moment as if Chisom was holding herself not to laugh, but suddenly burst out laughing, ‘My boyfriend sure knows how to joke around. Be careful, don’t let your boss hear that.’

Hearing Chisom laugh happily, Andrew couldn’t stop himself from laughing as well. ‘For recharging my brain I should take you to shopping. I will text you the address and you’ll wait for me there after you dismiss from work.’

‘I’m glad to have a super rich boyfriend,’ Chisom chuckled.

Andrew smiled. ‘You’re free to scam me.’

‘I won’t disappoint you.’

After hanging up, Andrew continued with work, hoping to meet her later at Grace Shopping Mall.
