Chapter Four: Together in Each Other’s Arms
After months of anticipation, the day finally arrived.
Uremma reached Lagos International Airport early, her heart pounding with
excitement. As she paid the taxi driver, the cool morning air brushed against
her skin, heightening her anticipation.
Uremma was wearing her favourite dress, the one Obinna
had always loved. It was a stunning red floral silk dress, rich in a shade of
crimson, featuring a delicate pattern of white and pink blossoms that seemed to
dance with her every movement. To complete the look, she wore matching red
pumps that perfectly complemented the dress. The heels were slender and
stylish, adding a few inches to her height and giving her an added boost of
confidence. The pumps were adorned with roses, and a small, elegant bow on the
toe, which provided a sweet and feminine touch that matched the overall
elegance of her outfit. The combination of her dress and pumps highlighted her
grace and poise, making her stand out amidst the busy airport scene. The
jasmine scent from her perfume mingled with the diverse aromas of the terminal.
Heads turned as she walked through the airport, her beauty drawing admiring glances.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos buzzed
with activity. Passengers, both domestic and international, streamed through
the terminal. Families reunited with joyous embraces, children clung to their
parents, and weary business travellers made their way to the exit. The air was
filled with the hum of voices, the aroma of coffee and tea mingling with the
scent of freshly baked pastries, and the occasional announcement echoing
through the halls. Shops displayed colourful local crafts, and the scent of
spicy Nigerian cuisine wafted from nearby restaurants, adding to the lively
atmosphere of the bustling airport scene.
Uremma’s eyes scanned the crowd, her heart racing with
every passing minute. She stood near the arrival gate, the red floral silk
dress she was wearing seemed to glow with its own inner light. Her dark hair
was styled in soft waves that cascaded down her back, and her makeup was
flawless, enhancing her natural beauty and ensuring she looked radiant for the
special moment. Her hands clutched a bouquet of beautiful red roses—Obinna’s
favourite—and also the latest letter from Obinna, a smile playing on her lips.
As she waited, she recalled all their letters, the words
of love and longing that had sustained her through the months of separation.
Amid the hustle and bustle of the airport, Uremma’s gaze
sharpened as she searched for a familiar face among the emerging travellers.
Then, through the crowd, she saw him—Obinna. His tall frame, dressed in a
high-end navy blue suit, was unmistakable. His dark hair, neatly cut, and his
confident stride made her heart leap.
Obinna’s eyes met hers, and for a moment, everything else
faded away. He stepped into the terminal, his face breaking into a wide smile
as he saw Uremma. The crowd seemed to part, allowing him to move swiftly
towards her, just like in slow-motion scenes in drama series.
As he came towards her, memories of their shared past
flooded Uremma’s mind. The park, the letters, the sweet moments—they all led to
this moment. Obinna reached her and, with a joyful exclamation, enveloped her
in a warm embrace. It was as if time had stood still, and all the distance that
had separated them vanished in an instant. Not minding the people around, he
enveloped her in a hot, rapturous kiss. The kiss was passionate and lingering,
their lips meeting in a way that spoke of every moment they had missed. The
noise of the airport faded into the background, leaving only the sound of their
hearts beating in unison.
After the kiss, Obinna pulled back slightly to look at
her, his eyes filled with both love and awe. ‘Ure,’ he said, his voice a mix of
relief and joy. ‘You’re even more beautiful than I remembered.’
Tears welled up in Uremma’s eyes, and a radiant smile
spread across her face. ‘And you, Obinna, are even more captivating than I
imagined,’ she exclaimed. ‘Always so cute and mesmerising.’
The reunion was everything they had dreamed of and
beyond. They spent hours sharing stories and laughter, stealing kisses from
time to time. It was as if they had never been apart, their bond stronger than
ever.
‘I’ve missed you so much,’ she whispered, tears of joy
streaming down her face.
Obinna kissed her forehead gently, wiping her tears
with his hand. ‘I’ve missed you too, my love. Let’s never be apart again.’
They visited their favourite spots in the city,
starting with the park where they had shared so many moments. They walked hand
in hand, reminiscing about their past and dreaming about their future.
At the park, they sat on their favourite bench by the
lake, watching the ducks glide across the water. Obinna pulled out a small box
from his pocket and handed it to Uremma.
‘What’s this?’ she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
‘Open it and see,’ Obinna replied, his eyes twinkling
with excitement.
Inside the box was a beautiful silver necklace with a
heart-shaped pendant. Engraved on it were the words, Ure and Obi forever.
‘Oh, Obinna, it’s beautiful,’ Uremma exclaimed, tears
of happiness filling her eyes.
Obinna helped her put on the necklace, and they shared
a tender kiss. The necklace lay perfectly against her skin. It was indeed a
symbol of their unbreakable bond.
The day continued with a visit to their favourite suya spot where they had shared their first
suya together. The familiar smell of
grilled meat filled the air, bringing back memories of their early days. They
laughed and talked, savouring each bite and each moment.
As the sun began to set, they made their way to a
small, cosy restaurant. The candlelight flickered softly, creating a warm and
intimate atmosphere. They talked about their plans, their dreams, and the
future they would build together.
‘Uremma, I want you to know that no matter what
happens, I’ll always be by your side,’ Obinna said, taking her hand in his. ‘I
promise to love you and support you in everything.’ He paused, as if gathering
the strength to ask the most important question in the world. With a sweet
smile, he asked, ‘Will you marry me, Uremma Ugo?’
Uremma’s heart swelled with love as she looked into his
eyes, tears of happiness streaming down her face. ‘You have always been the
greatest blessing for me.’
Obinna’s eyes sparkled with hope as he awaited her
response. ‘So, will you marry me?’
With a gentle squeeze of his hand, Uremma replied, her
voice steady and filled with conviction, ‘Yes, I will marry you, Obinna
Ndubuisi. I want to be with you forever, until we grow old and until the end of
the world.’
They sealed their promise with a tender kiss, their love
evident in every touch. As they toasted to their future, their eyes shone with
hope and determination. The reunion not only strengthened their love and bond
but also made them more certain than ever that they were meant to be together.
Final Letter:
My Dearest Uremma,
As I write this letter today, my heart is overflowing with joy and
gratitude. The wait is over, and I am finally holding you in my arms, feeling
the warmth of your breath. Your love has always given me strength, and I am so
thankful for every letter that kept us connected.
Our journey was not easy, but it made our love stronger. I promise to
cherish you every day and never take a single moment for granted. Here’s to our
future, my love—a future filled with endless love and happiness.
Just
as roses have thorns, we will inevitably face challenges in life. Yet, like the
beautiful flowers of the rose, we will also experience many wonderful moments
together. While the thorns are a part of the rose, it is the flowers that
captivate and bring joy. Similarly, our sweet moments will outshine the
difficult ones and make our bond even stronger every day of our lives.
With all my love,
Obinna.
Their days together were filled with joy and
contentment. They revisited the places that held special memories for them,
creating new ones along the way. Each moment was a celebration of their love,
reflecting the strength of their bond.
