The moment I met you (Chapter 79)

By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Before Michael could finish listening to Jessica’s voice note, he sent his reply and tossed his phone on the couch. After staying a while on the balcony he turned, picking up his phone, he went to his room.

The following day afternoon at Star Restaurant, just as Audrey stepped into the restaurant, Chioma turned her head, smiling, she nodded at her. Chioma was carrying a tray of rice and groundnut with chicken, a customer had ordered.

Putting the food on the table before the customer, Chioma said, ‘Enjoy your meal, Ma’am.’ Then, she walked over to Audrey. ‘Ma’am Audrey, am glad to see you again.’

‘Always,’ Audrey replied with a sweet smile. ‘What do you have in the menu?’

‘Just say what you want…’ Chioma couldn’t bring herself to tell Audrey that there was no menu. It was a local restaurant, not a high-end restaurant meant for rich folks like Audrey. Chioma wondered why Audrey likes eating here. Today was her second time of eating here.

Audrey looked around, and pointed, ‘I want the same food as that woman’s.’

Chioma followed her gaze. ‘That’s ofe ede with akpu…’ Chioma glanced back at her. ‘Will you be able to swallow that?’

Audrey lifted a shoulder. ‘What’s wrong with the dish? Besides, my grandmother loves eating swallow.’ She gesticulated with her delicate hands, making Chioma to laugh.

‘I’m afraid your hand will smell after eating that. Akpu  smell awful. After eating it, your breath will reek of it… the odour will cling to you like super glue.’
