When Chioma got home from work, Louisa had gotten home as well and was cooking dinner. The whole apartment was rich with the smell ofe egusi Louisa was cooking. Chioma smilingly walked in and embraced Louisa’s waist from the back in a teasing manner.
‘Mum, thank you for always taking care of me.’
‘Are you hungry, I know you have a huge appetite but unfortunately, you have never turned into a pig, maybe because you weren’t born in the year of the pig?’ Louisa turned around. She gazed into Chioma’s eyes and found out that this happiness didn’t stem from just being hungry. If she remembered right, this past few days Chioma had been looking happy. It was the kind of happiness that a girl wears if her dream man became her beau. Could it be that this mysterious man that brushed her with his car finally became her beau? She knew that Chioma had always been a sweet young lady, but then, Louisa had a strong hunch that something gave her this radiating glow. Louisa tilted Chioma’s face up gently and asked, ‘Did that mysterious guy finally win the sweep?’
‘Mum…I’m hungry.’Chioma felt embarrassed at her mother’s sudden question.
‘Besides, I received my pay packet today so I got to be happy, right?’
Louisa nodded with a smile. Since Chioma didn’t want to talk about it she didn’t pursue the topic, even though she knew that her sudden question was the truth. Chioma was in love, and Michael was the reason for this glow. She had once swum in the river of love and was able to smell love anytime it appeared.
‘Food will be ready in a minute. Go change.’
Chioma raced to the bedroom. She changed into a red home dress, and then went to the dining table.
Louisa
had already placed the food on the dining table before Chioma slipped into her
chair. It was a simple meal of ofe egusi and
Akpu. Andrew returned home just in
time. Pulling off his shirt, he washed his hands and dug in just like Chioma
had done. Louisa watched her children with happiness and felt pleased with what
they have become. She was proud of them, and grateful to GOD for gifting these
two adorable kids.
