‘Mum…’Daniel blushed, lowering his head not to meet Audrey’s gaze.
Audrey couldn’t help but smile at Daniel. She knew at once that his family had already accepted her. She was pleased to see the warm reception even though she hadn’t informed them that she was coming.
Chisom came out of her room, heading for the kitchen when she caught a glance of Daniel. She saw how happy he looked, so she ran up to him and punched him in the chest without thinking.
‘What’s that smile on your face? Did Audrey invite you to her birthday? I’m sure she is the reason for your happiness lately…’ Chisom’s voice trailed off when she noticed the weird expression on Daniel’s face. Turning around instinctively, she froze at once when she saw Audrey.
‘A…Audrey,’Chisom stuttered. She felt idiotic at having spouted nonsense without noticing Audrey was in the room.
‘Chisom,’Audrey smiled politely. ‘How have you been?’
‘Fine,’Chisom nodded shyly.
‘Chisom, you’re lucky to have Audrey as your friend,’Beatrice said as she signalled to Chisom to scoop up the cups sitting on the floor by the centre table. She turned to Audrey. ‘Take a seat. I will leave you and Daniel to catch up.’ She turned to leave.
‘Thank you.’Audrey sank back gracefully into the sofa, and she smiled up at Daniel who looked at her adoringly. ‘I came to ask you for a favour.’
‘What’s it?’Daniel was willing to grant her the favour she was requesting for.
Audrey smiled,
sipped her drink, and then glanced back at Daniel. She took out two invitation boxes from
her leather bag and handed them to Daniel. ‘Since we are now good friends, I
was hoping you could come,’she paused. ‘Chisom is to come too.’
