Once they were outside the gates, Daniel waved a taxi. The driver stopped Daniel and Chisom first before heading for Chioma’s. And in few minutes, Chioma arrived home.
Chioma walked inside. She took off her shoes at the door and sighed. The fragrance of achara tea could be smelled as she entered the living room. While trying to pull out her ringing phone from her bag, she saw Andrew coming out of his room with a cup of hot-piping tea.
Smiling, she strode over and
took a sip. ‘Did I stay very long?’She asked, looking up at him in her
puppy-dog eyes.
‘Didn’t you say you didn’t
want to go before? What happened when you went there… you seem to like that
place. How could you stay this late at night? You didn’t consider that anything
could happen…’
‘I’m
sorry,’Chioma said.
‘I
only allowed you and Chisom attend the party because Daniel was there. With a
man to protect you I was a bit relieved.’
‘Audrey
won’t hurt me.’
‘I know but what about others?’He
glanced at her phone which was starting to ring again. ‘Who’s calling you? Don’t
tell me, it’s Felix?’
It
was Felix that was calling. Confused with what to answer she said, ‘My phone is
out of battery. I’m going in to charge it.’
Chioma
made her way swiftly to the bedroom. Andrew took sips of his tea, studying her.
‘I know you aint’t having an affair with Felix. I trust you completely, little
sis, but then, I wish haters don’t ruin your relationship with Michael,’ he
mumbled. ‘You remind me of several romance movies I have watched…in the end,
the lead characters survive to the last.’ He lifted his mug to his lips and
sipped.
After taking off her dress, Chioma threw herself on the bed
lazily and patted her stomach. She had eaten a lot at the party. Glancing at
the time and seeing that it was almost eleven o’clock, she turned out the light.
Just as she was about closing her eyes to sleep, her phone began ringing again.
She wanted to ignore the phone, but then, if she doesn’t pick up the phone it
might wake her mother that was already fast asleep.
