The Moment I Met You (Chapter 372)

By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Michael led Chioma towards the sports car. He opened the car door, and placed a protective hand over Chioma’s head as she got in. Michael closed the passenger door, and then went over to the driver’s seat, started the engine, and drove off. The onlookers at the mall kept on staring at the glamorous and dazzling sports car until the car was slowly out of sight. Anyone that had seen Michael’s actions today would admit that he was the romantic man the world has ever seen. He was a man of few words, so he preferred action rather than too much talking. Most of the girls at the mall were indeed envious. Who wouldn’t envy this kind of life with lavish pampering? If it were possible to exchange their fate with someone else, most of the girls wished that they could become Chioma Chima and become Michael’s woman, so that they would be the object of his affection. However, this was nothing but wishful thinking. No one was qualified to replace Chioma, and so their wish was impossible to fulfill.

When the car got onto the expressway, Chioma smiled, and shyly said, ‘Thank you for clearing everything…I am grateful.’

‘Then call me hubby,’Michael smiled and said, his long arm languidly controlling the steering wheel.

‘Hubby,’Chioma pouted.

Michael smiled. Instead of driving to the expressway exit, he made a turn, heading towards Wuse Market.

Surprised, Chioma asked, ‘Michael, where are we going?’

‘Can’t you guess?’

‘Wuse Market,’Chioma thought for a bit and said.                                 Michael smiled but didn’t answer her. He drove straight to Wuse Market, which was the biggest open shopping market in Abuja. It was a place that would be flooded with people, place where ordinary people like Chioma would go and make purchases, but not a place meant for Michael’s delicate feet to touch.

When Michael drove in the crowds with his red dazzling sports car, there were many countless gazes directed at the, like the car was thrown down from heaven.

Chioma who was seated in the car became nervous at the countless stares. She had been to bustling places like this, but this was her first time of coming here in a shiny-expensive car like that worth millions of naira, and to think of it, she had come with Michael, who was known by people as a man with aristocratic aura, a man fit to be an emperor. So, she should be nervous.

Suddenly, Michael stopped the car right in the middle of the market.                                                                                                                 ‘Michael…’ Chioma suddenly reached out and pinched her face. Was she dreaming? She wanted to make sure this was real. Being in this kind of market with this god-like man was like she was dreaming. But it was real. She could feel the pain of her skin when she pinched her skin.

The red sports car was a cabriolet, so with just a press of the button, the car’s roof slowly reclined, and folded into the boot. Immediately, the gently wind passing bye, blew at them, perhaps, welcoming them into the market.

Michael turned his charming face, his gaze locking onto her shocking pretty face. The sounds from outside the car, shouting, traffic sounds, music; all entered their ears.

Michael’s handsomeness attracted many gazers, which made Chioma feel uncomfortable. She wasn’t jealous, she was just afraid people might talk that she wasn’t qualified to be with him. He was beautiful in every way, and she was just a plain-looking girl from an ordinary home. Of course, she looked unqualified to be with him but love says that she was the only woman qualified to have him.
