As the programme was coming to a close,
Patricia stood from her seat and went to chat up with Isabelle.
‘Isabelle,
that slummy girl didn’t bring her mother. Maybe, we are just wasting our time.
She might not be the Louisa that we have been looking for. We might just boldly
confront Chioma, I’m sure that she will not refuse to tell us about her
mother.’
As Patricia spoke, Isabelle
stared at the circle of elite surrounding Felix. Holding onto his wine glass,
Felix began to smile at what they were saying.
‘What
should we do?’
Isabelle
turned back to Patricia when she heard her question. ‘I think we should stop
searching for her. She will come out on her own.’
Patricia watched as Michael and Chioma walked past them, heading towards the
table on their right, and in the sea of noise, Chioma clearly heard Michael’s
magnetic voice, ‘Are you tired?’
‘How
can I be tired while I am with you,’ Chioma said with a smile. ‘I
can escort you to the lounge upstairs for a rest.’
‘No, I’m fine.’
Michael
felt that she wasn’t feeling all right as she secretly touched her belly
anytime she had the chance. He didn’t know much about women, but he knew that
most time they feel pain whenever they were experiencing menstrual cramps.
Knowing how bad his mother suffered during her periods, his heart ached, for he
didn’t want Chioma to be suffering too. That was why he had to ring Robert to
bring over the lounge card for his private room in this Sharton Hotel, owned by
the Moon Corporation.
They stopped in front of two foreigners,
after Michael and Chioma toasted with them, they headed back.
‘If
you’re my secretary, I think that it will suit me,’ Michael glanced at Chioma
and said.
‘I’m not
qualified to be your secretary.’
When Patricia turned her head
around, she spotted Michael and Chioma standing close together as they
exchanged small talks with President Obinna and his wife.
‘Jessica
had so many times yearned for this scene. For many years she had wanted to be
the one standing next to my son and entertaining guests as a couple, but
Michael had never given Jessica the chance. But this slummy girl has already
taken up this important position in Michael’s life.’
‘Michael’s
not trying to entertain the guests; you know your son doesn’t like this kind of
things. He is only trying to introduce Chioma to them.’
‘That
slummy girl is only after our money. She’s looking beautiful now, am sure that
she would do anything to maintain that look.’
‘Just
like Louisa wasn’t after Edward’s money, I think this girl isn’t after Michael’s
money too,’ Isabelle said. ‘Somehow, I feel that she has similar character as
Louisa.’ Isabelle looked at Patricia. ‘She loves your sons…whether he is poor
or rich. She only pretends to be greedy for money but in reality she is not.
Patricia, I know that you could feel it too, but has refused to believe it
because you simply want Jessica for your son.’ Isabelle shook her head.
‘Jessica and Michael are not meant for each other. If you force them to marry,
honestly, they would both have series of problems and will divorce immediately
after the wedding. I know that my son, Felix is hurting inside, but I will
never encourage him to fight for what will not bring him happiness…He loves
Chioma, yes. But Chioma loves Michael instead…’
‘But you’re happy
with Nicholas even though he had loved Louisa first and I am happy with
Edward…’
‘Yes,
we are both happy in our marriages but no matter how you see it Patricia, our husbands
would sometimes reminisce about their pasts. Louisa is part of that past, we
can’t wipe it away. Yes, she ended up becoming the offended one and wasn’t able
to fight, but then, who knows what would have happened to you if Louisa was
some scheming girl,’ Isabelle sighed. ‘Stop hurting your son. Let him choose
his own life. Chioma’s his life; don’t kill him by taking her away from him.’
