The moment I met you (Chapter 57)

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

‘You don’t have to worry Jessica, your marriage with my son is decided already,’ Patricia said, reassuring Jessica with a sweet smile.

Jessica nodded, looking out the window. The car fell silent, with everyone focused on reaching home.

After Chioma got back home from work, she washed up and went to the dining for her dinner. It was such a tiring day; attending to customers at the restaurant, selling fruits in the market and working on broken cars at the garage.

Despite the exhaustion from work, the family of three still felt happy. Family was everything; other things could sweep away but not the love from the family.

‘Someone was generous to give me 8000 naira as tip just for serving her fried rice,’ Chioma said as she held a slice of bread in her hand.
‘You’re likeable that’s why,’ Andrew said as he sipped milk.

‘Oh, please, stop teasing me,’ Chioma said, laughing.

‘How much do I get from the tip?’ Louisa asked jokingly, putting food onto Andrew and Chioma’s plate.

‘Mum, you’re too old for that. Andrew will give you instead,’ Chioma chuckled. She had already thought of what to buy for her mother when she receives her first salary. If she wasn’t able to buy a nice handbag, then she would have to give her mother her entire salary for the month. But she was afraid her mother might want her to keep the money for herself.
‘You didn’t buy anything for us?’ Andrew teased Chioma.

Chioma rose to her feet, went to the bedroom and reappeared with a bag. She took out from the bag a pair of fancy white slippers, and also a tie. She gave her mother the slippers, and to Andrew, she handed him the blue tie. Obviously, Chioma had put lots of thoughtful preparation in buying these gifts.
