The corners of Jessica’s eyes were still teary when
she reached the Njemanze Villa. Wiping them away, she slowly opened the door of
her car, grabbing her purse, she ran to meet Patricia who was leisurely sipping
tea as she watched TV in the living room. Though, Patricia was at home relaxing, she
never forgot to dress well. She was wearing an Armani dress with a lotus flower motif.
Seeing
Jessica’s sad face, Patricia felt that it must have been because of Michael.
She put her cup down and stood up to embrace Jessica.
‘Aunty
Patricia you know I really love your son, right?’
Patricia nodded. ‘I have always
known,’Patricia said in a gentle whisper.
‘I
love him so much,’Jessica said, as if without Michael her life will stop.
‘You’re the best woman for my
son.’
‘I
met the girl today… she is not as beautiful as I am…I don’t know why Michael
would leave me for that woman.’
‘Everything
will work out well,’Patricia consoled.
‘What
do I do?’
‘I
totally understand you… if you want to cry, you’re free to do it in front of
me, okay.’Patricia gently patted Jessica’s shoulder.
Jessica had been trying to conceal her tears,
but after being comforted by Patricia, she released the threatening tears and
burst out crying. ‘Sorry, I have to cry like a baby.’
‘You’re
my baby, Okay?’Patricia soothed her. ‘I’m also going to be your mother-in-law,
so, you should feel free to show me your true self.’ Perhaps, because
Patricia’s words still gave Jessica hope, Jessica cried in Patricia’s warm
embrace until she couldn’t cry anymore.
‘Aunty, will you accept
Chioma?’
‘Oh,
the stupid girl’s name is Chioma?’Patricia doubted if she would like Chioma for
her son. ‘You’re simply the girl I want for my son.’
