Chioma shook her head. ‘No, I want to wear what I have,’she paused. ‘I want your family to accept me for who I am.’
Michael smiled. ‘That will surely happen…’He gave her an adoring smile. ‘What about working at Moon Corporation?’
‘I want to rely on myself to get a better job. I don’t want to use you as a stepping stone to benefit myself.’
Michael did not insist. He glanced sweetly at her. Then, he pulled at the front of her house. Chioma stepped out and headed inside.
Andrew was leisurely watching TV with Louisa when Chioma strode to the door; carrying the bouquet Michael had gifted her. Louisa held her cup of achara tea in her hand, taking sips from time to time. Andrew helped himself with the cold bottle of Pepsi he had taken from the fridge before Chioma’s arrival.
As Chioma pushed the door open, both Andrew and Louisa turned towards the door, not at all surprised to see Chioma carrying bouquet of flowers. They knew that the bouquet had come from Michael.
‘Chioma we had dinner without you, do you want to have some?’
Chioma shook her head replying softly, ‘No thank you, mum. I know you know I must have eaten. You’re deliberately trying to turn me into a pig.’
‘What’s wrong with that?’Andrew chuckled, and then said again,’how could you still dress like that for a candlelit dinner? Michael could have bought you an evening gown…anyway, as long as you’re happy, then, I am in support.’
‘I love what I am wearing.’Chioma paused, then added, ‘I’m a little tired, I’ll go ahead.’
‘Why don’t I prepare the bathroom for you so that you take your bath and feel better?’Louisa offered, starting to make her way to the bathroom.’
