Nathan Ojukwu sat by the pool of their mansion, dressed in a white robe. His hair was wet, and it seemed he had had a good swim. Reaching for the red wine that was brought to him by a servant; he poured himself some wine and took a brief sip. Then, he picked up his phone and sent Jessica a video-chat invitation.
When Jessica left Andrew’s work place, she drove straight to the Njemanze Villa to have tea with Patricia and discuss some things with her. After they were done with their discussion, she left the villa and headed for a luxury shopping mall downtown. She had wanted to distract herself a little. Not wanting to go home after a long shopping, she found a bench beside the mall and sat down. Above her was a street lamp pouring a warm glow over her as she sipped cola and enjoying the night view. She didn’t seem to mind the people entering the mall, and the several cars driving past. The surroundings seemed lively even though it was already nine o’clock.
She had done this to take advantage of the news that had gone viral. Perhaps, she was trying to draw more sympathy from people. The staff of the mall knew who she was and received her with great care when she was shopping. Also, most passers-by waved at her. She was enjoying the care and spotlight.
Answering the video call, Jessica sounded weak and dispirited; as though she was in deep thought. She didn’t bother to look into the camera but she knew who it was that was calling even though she pretended not to know. ‘Hello, who is this?’She placed her earpiece to her ear and asked.
Nathan silently looked into the camera for ten seconds before speaking, ‘Where are you?’
Seeing the background in the video, Nathan knew she was not at home.
‘Why are you calling me? I don’t have time nor do I have anything to say to you.’ Jessica sounded as though she was going to hang up the phone. ‘I have had too much already. Please don’t add to my pain.’ ‘Jess, I know you know how much I love you.’
‘Stop it. I love Michael and not you.’
‘Oh right, I’m glad you know it was me that is calling even though you had pretended not to have known. You’re now in the top search rankings…your effort to ruin the lowly girl will eventually go down the drain, I really want to know how you’re going to continue your battle with Michael and his woman even though you have the feeling that you will lose…’
‘You idiot…’Jessica spat out angrily.’How dare you call that bitch Michael’s woman? I am the only woman qualified for him!’ Sharon’s voice came through the phone, ‘Jessica, the more you act this way, the more you push everyone away from you.’ She had come to give Nathan his tablet when she heard how arrogantly Jessica spoke to her brother.
‘Sharon, I wish you know what I am going through.’
Staring into the camera, Sharon said, ‘It is cold outside, go home already. With what you are doing, it is obvious that you have been defeated by Chioma, and if you don’t change, you will always remain beneath her. But you can end all of this mess; you can be friends with Michael again.’
‘I don’t want to be just friends with him. I want to marry him.’
‘Fate has someone else for you. Stop humiliating yourself…please, stop this already.’
