The moment I met you (Chapter 161)

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Pinching Daniel’s nose playfully, Andrew teased him, and then they walked away.

Leaving the mall, and walking smartly in and out of traffic, they were soon swallowed up by the Saturday morning shoppers. The sight was beautiful, and complimenting the scene, a beautiful song was heard playing at the background.

On the other hand, at the Moon Corporation, Robert walked over to Felix’s office to hand him a document to sign. Reaching the office, he knocked on the door, however, when Felix’s new assistant came to open the door, he appeared to be hiding something, not allowing Robert to enter. Robert curiously looked at Peter as he asked, ‘Peter, is there someone else in the room? I mean, is Sir Felix flirting with any woman in the office?’

‘Robert, how could you spout nonsense? Do you think Sir Felix would stoop so low to do it in the office? My boss is responsible.’Peter frowned at Robert.

‘Then let me in. Let me see for myself. I need to give him this document to sign. Sir Michael strictly warned me to give it to him myself,’Robert said, trying to push open the door.

‘Is all right. Let him in.’ Felix’s voice was heard from inside.

Peter left the door and Robert walked in. He was surprised to see a huge bouquet of flowers on the white exquisite coffee table.

‘Boss…Sir Michael wants you to sign this,’Robert said, handing him the document. He was still stunned as to what the bouquet was doing in Felix’s office. He knew that Felix wasn’t the kind that flirts with women. So, he wondered if Felix had a new crush just like Michael. Was she of lowly birth? Taking a deep breath, he wondered if the Njemanze brothers were cursed to marry lowly women, Instead of rich and sophisticated women like Jessica.

 ‘Audrey,’Chioma greeted with a smile.

Audrey nodded with a smile.

‘We went shopping… Big brother Daniel treated us today.’ Chioma sounded cheerful. ‘He’s Chisom’s elder brother, and this is my big brother, Andrew,’ she introduced them to Audrey.

As Audrey turned to Daniel, he smiled, and then looked away. He didn’t utter a word. Wasn’t he supposed to ask her if she was going home? Audrey thought. Then she said, ‘He saved me from falling,’ she told them and they turned to look at Daniel in surprise. He hadn’t mentioned anything about saving Audrey, so when Audrey told them everything, they looked both surprised and happy.

‘It was nothing,’Daniel said softly.

‘I should go ahead.’ Audrey turned towards her car and sped away.

‘You saved goddess Audrey and you didn’t say a word about it?’ Andrew teased Daniel.

‘It’s no big deal. Besides, I would save anyone who was about to stumble.’

‘Wow!’ Andrew laughed. ‘Daniel is now Abuja James Bond.’

‘Do you like her already?’ Chisom asked, chuckling.

‘Stop it, you two,’Chioma smiled. ‘Stop bullying big brother Daniel.’

The moment I met you (Chapter 159)

Gracefully, she descended the stairs. She was wearing a long dress, so she decided to be careful with the shopping bags she was carrying, so she wouldn’t fall or stumble. But just as she was about reaching the last step, she stepped on her dress and almost fell, and just like in romance movies a strong arm came around her waist and saved her.

Audrey was curious to see who had been swift enough to catch her from falling, looking up; her eyes met a pair of dark eyes, and warm smile.

‘Are you all right, Miss?’ Asked Daniel, who was standing in front of her. Daniel had gone to the restroom, and heading back to meet with his group that where waiting at the cafĂ©, he rushed over when he saw Audrey about to stumble. He had saved her from falling, and Audrey was grateful for that. Audrey wondered who he was. He was wearing a casual shirt and trouser he had bought from a road stall. She could see that the man wasn’t rich but he was good looking even in his cheap clothes. He was tall, handsome and smelled of cologne.

‘Yes, yes... I am fine…’Audrey replied. ‘Thanks.’

‘I’m glad to hear that,’ Daniel smiled before turning around to leave.
‘Who could he be?’ Audrey muttered as she stared at his back while he walked away. He was very good looking. She wondered if he was already taken, and who was the lucky girl? Taking a deep breath, she strolled towards her car.

Putting her purchases into the car and about to head for the driver’s seat, her eyes caught sight of Daniel at the entrance. She paused when she saw him. He was the man that had saved her. He couldn’t be Chioma’s beau, could he? She thought when she saw Chioma walking along side with him, laughing. Then, her gaze shifted towards Chisom who was walking behind them. Audrey felt a bit relieved when she saw Chisom, for she felt that it could have been a friendly shopping, nothing more. Was she falling for Daniel? Suddenly, she found herself walking towards them.

Stepping out of the car, Audrey gracefully walked inside. She was wearing a white dress; her dark hair was combed back beautifully, flowing in beautiful waves. The makeup on her delicate face was perfect, and she wore a fitting diamond earings. Her purse was of a luxury brand, and perfect for her skin colour. Elegantly, she walked to Dior counter.

‘Madam, the pink one will fit you,’ the saleswoman said cheerfully to Audrey. Of course, Audrey looked impressive in her outfit, so it was obvious that anyone around would give her respect and pamper her like a queen. After all, she looked rich and beautiful. But if she had worn an unbranded dress, the saleswoman would have kept wiping any dress, Audrey touched.  Her face would have been cold and without enthusiasm, because the saleswomen only smiled at those wearing luxury brands. But anyone dressed normally attracted their cold faces, because they felt that anyone wearing unbranded cheap clothes couldn’t afford luxury brands and therefore shouldn’t touch anything here.

‘No, I have got lots of pinks,’ Audrey said with a smile. ‘I want this one.’ She pointed. It was a peach coloured dress.

‘But don’t you like the pink dress I chose for you?’ the sales woman asked, trying to curry favour.

‘No, I love it. It’s beautiful. I didn’t come for pinks and blues,’Audrey said. ‘I want that one also.’she pointed at a beige-coloured dress.

After Audrey finished fitting the dresses she bought in the fitting room, the saleswoman packaged them for her; she paid and left Dior section, and went over to Chanel counter, picked a few bags and turned to leave the mall.

‘And what about yours? Maybe we should sneak out after eating, that way we wouldn’t pay for anything.’ Andrew chuckled.

‘For sure the cameras around will catch you,’ said Chioma, laughing as she took bite of her pineapple rice. ‘There are CCTV installed everywhere.’ She glanced around, seeing the CCTVs on the walls.

Andrew shook his head. ‘No, Chioma, I will be able to escape from the cameras.  But if I get caught you’re in it too.’

‘We’ll think of a better way to sneak out without being caught. Don’t they say, two heads are better than one,’ said Daniel, laughingly.

‘And four heads are better than two,’ said Chisom cheerfully.

Just like that the four of them chatted happily while they ate their delicious meal.

When they were done with eating, Daniel handed his ATM card to the waiter who swiped it in their machine before handing it back to him. Once they were done with shopping, they decided to have some coffee before leaving.

Meanwhile, Audrey arrived at the same shopping mall in her Sapphire-blue Bugatti Veyron. Celine and her boyfriend Prince went to a different luxury shopping mall downtown.

It had been long since Chioma felt the cool air-conditioning caressing her hot face. Apart from banks and other high-end public places, Chioma rarely enjoyed the cool caress of air-conditioner. She only experience such cooling moment when she visited high-end areas. So, right now, she felt it was nice to feel the cool air-conditioning on her hot face. She was certain, Chisom felt the same way. And anyone in her cheap shoes felt the same way too.

They took the escalator up to the first floor to the restaurant. There weren’t many people dining in this area. Most of the diners were at the first class dining area of the mall. When Chioma and her group entered they placed their order, and then waited patiently by passing the time chatting happily to each other.

After they got their food and began to eat, Chisom said, ‘You know big brother Daniel, I think that now you broke up with your cheating girl friend, you should find another.’

Daniel glanced at Chioma but she lowered her head, not wanting to look into his eyes.

‘I wish you’d tell me exactly how to find a good girl like Chioma,’said Daniel sincerely.

‘I’ve told you, Chioma is already taken and have no space for you. But don’t worry, you still have a chance to find your heart’s better half,’ she sighed. ‘Maybe sooner or later you will find her.’

‘Oh, you’re a genius… I’m proud of my girl friend,’ said Andrew, he couldn’t help chuckling. ‘You’re really sure that your ugly brother will find a girl friend?’ Andrew joked, and they laughed.

‘Now you have made me feel awful, Andrew. I really shouldn’t have treated you to this meal you’ll never have had for the rest of your life.’ Daniel wasn’t appalled. ‘Maybe you’re going to pay for your own meal.’

Just as Michael walked downstairs with the document he had taken from his study room he saw Felix making his way upstairs. Felix paused in his steps when he saw Michael.

‘Michael, you’re leaving?’

Michael nodded, expressionless and walked towards the coffee table at the living room for his keys, then he turned to look at Felix, whose mobile phone was ringing. He paused for a few seconds after Felix rejected the call, and asked, ‘Do you mind coming to the office with me?’

‘We should go. Maybe that will help us let out the steam,’Felix sighed. ‘You go ahead first… I have something to do before going to the office.’ It seemed he suddenly remembered that he was going to a florist shop to buy a huge bouquet of flowers for Chioma. He wanted to gift her something for the weekend.

Michael didn’t say a word. He turned around and left with the car keys. Reaching for his gold lamborghini, he opened the door and sat inside. Holding onto the steering wheel, he drove away in the dazzling sunlight.

Chioma and her group made their way through the Saturday morning crowds in the market. Daniel had wanted them to go to the mall first, but Chioma and Chisom said they wanted to have a good stroll at Wuse Market which was located at Wuse District in the northwestern part of Abuja metropolis. The market happens to be the city’s principal market and was often graced by many shoppers. After browsing through the market, they went over to, a luxurious shopping mall in the city. Today was Saturday, a perfect day for shopping and relaxing. It seemed that the group got all the luxury of time to shop and dine. They were looking happy as they went up the shallow steps into the mall.
